CHINESE firm, Spur Group, has concluded plans to establish a multi-million dollar factory that would produce computing hardwares and softwares in Nigeria.
The investment is expected to lead to the production of cheaper and affordable computers in the country.
Speaking in Abuja recently, General Manager of Spur Group, Mr. Yang Ming assured that the company decided to invest in Nigeria because of the cordial investment climate and similarities of developmental challenges of the two countries.
He said his firm was one of the three top IT firms that is spreading e-government IT enterprises in China. According to him, the firm currently has a foothold in South Africa but would be glad to also build a manufacturing plant of both hardware and software in Nigeria at the end of its business tourism.
The investment drive is being facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Science &Technology and the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission.
At a meeting with the team in Abuja, the Minister of Science and Technology, Chief (Mrs.) Grace Ekpiwhre urged the Chinese firm to consider the Nigerian environment by producing solar-powered computer systems for the country.
She assured that there was vast market for Information and Telecommunication technology in Nigeria. The Minister noted that the plans of the firm was in tandem with Nigerian government's efforts at penetrating ICT into the rural areas in line with the e-government policy of the Federal Government.
Ekpiwhre called on the company to feel free to present concrete manufacturing proposals to the Nigerian government, and assured that the government has a regime of tax force incentives and land to encourage foreign investment in the country.
